Evaluation Question 3

For our final audience feedback, we have shown our classmates for feedback on our main and ancillary tasks. Here are the results:

Feedback form 1:

Feedback Form 2:

Feedback Form 3:

Feedback Form 4:

Feedback Form 5:

Feedback Form 6:

Feedback Form 7:

Overall, we were very pleased with our feedback. All 7/7 thought out trailer was conventional for our set genre and all seemed impressed with our editing and ambient sound. Some people did think we used too many jump cuts, and thought our actors were unbelievable in the fighting scene however only 2/7 complained about this so, even though it would be too late to improve the acting, we still decided not to improve on them as 5/7 didn't see them as major problems.
7/7 liked our ancillary tasks and thought the poster specfically looked really good and professional. No one thinks there is anything we need to improve on.
We did also ask our audience what they thought about our poster and magazine. We asked them what they liked most about them both, and what they don't like too much, and what would they do if they could change it.  All 7/7 really liked our poster and magazine. The poster was said to have looked 'professional' and 'effective', while the magazine was described as 'really good'. One of the people who gave us feedback said they liked out magazine as they didn't think it was over crowded and thought it look believable to be a real movie magazine.

We also created a survey on SurveyMonkey, asking the same questions to 5 more people. The ages of the people who gave responses ranged from 17-21. We chose these people specifically as this was our main target audience. When selecting people to answer our survey, we asked people who did and didn't like horror's so we had none bias feedback.
Here was our responses:

We learned from our feedback, that some of our audience encoded and decoded our messages differently. We asked our audience what they thought of the red lighting gel used during the fight scene. Some thought it was 'effective' and worked well for the genre, however 2 members of our audience did not remember to gel, exampling that the out-standing message we wanted to send across of danger and death within at that scene was not noticed by everyone. This examples Stuart Hall's Reception Theory, showing that not everyone decodes the same message the deliver wants the audience to receive.
In comparison, females enjoyed the horror film's idea more than the males did when questioned separately. In the survey, 2/7 people said that they didn't like the acting because they thought it was slightly unrealistic in the sense of the protagonist being female.

Ancillary Task - Poster Final

In completion of our poster, we have added the bottom credits you would normally find at the bottom of posers and at the end of trailer, to add to the realism of a typical movie poster. We have added all the names of the people who acted in our trailer and all the crew's names to the credits. In order to structure this properly, we followed other poster's credit as a template. We also added a release date and our logo.

Ancillary Task - Final Magazine

Here is the Magazine we have created based on our horror trailer. Molly has created our magazine based on the orginal flat plan we created. There was some changes added to the magazine such as the leaving out the bubble from the top right hand corner. The theme colours of red and black folowed through of the original flat plan to represent the genre of horror.

Update Week 15-21

Throughout the weeks, we have finished editing the trailer and finished off both ancillary tasks.

Final Company Logo

We found that when went to put our logo onto our trailer, the logo did end up looking our of place because the background needed to be black. We then decided to change the background colour to black to it with the trailer background. This was its outcome.

Rough Company Logo

These were our rough company logo's for 'Bionic Bunny Studio Production' . We decided to get rid of all the small fiddly bits from the first logo as we found when trying to edit it into looking neater, we found it extremely difficult to get around all the small details with it being made on Paint. Both logo's was designed on Paint, but the bottom logo was improved on Photoshop to help get the details of the paint splatter neaten up. This enabled up to also neaten up the outline and make the black lines look a bit more curvy in he appropriate places. We just need now make sure this logo is able to go onto the trailer without looking out of place.

Update Week 10-13

In the past couple of weeks, we have been able to film the last remaining scene and start editing the Trailer, now that we have all of our footage. We have made a rough cut but not yet added the ambient sound to the trailer, or properly edited the footage at the end of the trailer.

Trailer Rough Cut 1

Trailer Rough Cut 1 & Feedback

This is out 1st Rough Cut:

In out first Rough Cut, we made a chronological ordered trailer which after showing our first audience, found that this made an unrealistic view for a trailer. This was one of our own feedback options to improve on.
The feedback off our audience suggested that maybe we could cut up the police report into sections because it ran for too long. Someone also suggested putting the end part of the police report at the end of the trailer to help mix up the order. We really liked this idea as we thought that it would symbolically show that the end of the report foreshadows the end of the character's lives.
Another person also suggested that we should take out some of the boring scenes to make the trailer a bit shorter because we were giving off a bit too much information, which seemed irrelevant for a Trailer.
We found all of our feedback really useful and we think that we should try include all of this into our trailer to help it look better and more professional.

Filming 3

This week we have managed to film that last part to our trailer which is the Chief of Police scene. Unfortunately we couldn't film where we originally planned which was outside Oxclose Academy, due to lack of time, so we filmed inside one of the college's classrooms with a different actor than we also originally planned due to opportunity. Now we are able to start editing the missing scene of out trailer.

In this scene we managed to find some of the props we planned to use much as the mircophones. We also asked some photography students to come behind the camera and take some pictures of the actor to give the flashes and camera sounds to make the interview look and sound more realistic. However, we couldn't get the red tie like we planned due to lack of time and opportunity of when our actor was free.

Update Week 9

This week, we have started on the ancillary task of the poster. It isn't complete yet but there are only few more thins to add to it until it is complete. We have also started the editing of the scenes we have shot on the softare Final Cut.

Poster Update 1

Poster Update

Here in our first poster update, we have started constructing the poster by including the image we have all decided would be best for our genre, and by adding a title which we all decided to call 'A Crimson Horror'. We decided to call our movie this, as in out research we found that it was a shade of dark red, and thought it would be perfect for our trailer. We didn't want to go too cliche with the name, so we decided to keep it it simple. We followed our flat plan by placing the title just under half way down the page, as we also found this a common technique in other successful horror movie posters.
For our main image, we decided to go with  half the clowns face with little light shining on his face to give it a simple yet really effective sinister vibe and to help match the image with it's genre. We also chose this because it was a popular option within most typical horrors which all look really effect also. To make out poster, we used Adobe Photoshop. The advantages of using this software was helping us to be able to enhance the hue of the image, helping the red become brighter, and the yellow on the mask stand out a little more, and eye sockets of the mask seem darker. When doing this, we were also able to match the colour of our title to the same colour of a particular part of the clowns nose. We thought this would be effective so then out poster wouldn't be clashed with different shades of the same colour, that didn't match.
We have also added in a slogan with a typical pun such as 'A Circus You'd Die For'. We decided we liked the idea of making the slogan into the pun as in our research we found the horror 'Prom Night' pulled off their pun 'A Night To Die For' successfully. We decided to make the font smaller and spread out a little with white text font so that it differed from the title.
We also plan to follow the flat plan by including a two/three lined cast and crew list like on most posters with tall/squished font, to be a realistic as the other trailers. For this we plan to take off another trailer poster so we can have the same order. We also plan to add in the chosen production logo and a release date of our trailer.

Ancillary Photo Shoot

Here are some of the images that we have taken for our photoshoot. At first we tried taking some close up's of our clown's face with one lightbox from the side with a small light of 2.3.We liked the idea that you could only saw a bit of the clown's face as we found it quite creepy and therefore effective, however. We noticed that there wasn't enough light on the clowns face as it was too dark.

For this image we moved the lightbox in front of the camera so it would give off more light. We thought this was really effective but we still liked the idea of only having a bit of light on one side of the clowns face for a creepier effect.

Next we decided to try use something more powerful than the lightbox. This time we decided to use a phone light underneath the clowns face to give a brighter light on the clown as highlights. We all agreed that this was quite effective and definitely creepy enough for the poster, however. We found that the only problem we seemed to have was the shadowing of the clown's nose and his face.

To try improve our shadow problem, we tried adding another phone light to the clown's face but further up and further away so it wasn't as bright as the other light. We thought that this was an improvement and looked really effective.

As part of our experiment with the lighting and positioning of the clowns face, we decided to move the phone light back to the side of the clown's face because we liked the idea of the light half on is face. We really liked this idea, especially with the close up of his face.

The final part of our experiment, we decided to take more close up's of the clowns face only showing half of his face.

Overall, we thought the most effective photo's and possible images to be used for the poster are:
